Menton’s Famous Botanical Gardens & Historic Villas

Menton’s subtropical micro‑climate has created some of the Riviera’s most beautiful botanical gardens — peaceful, atmospheric places filled with exotic plants, Belle Époque villas and quiet shaded paths. Each garden has its own character, and all are easy to reach from Villa Monti.

🌺 Val Rahmeh – Exotic Garden

Val Rahmeh is Menton’s most lush and colourful garden, a tropical oasis created around a historic villa. Its winding paths lead through rare palms, giant bamboo, citrus trees and exotic flowering plants that thrive in Menton’s warm climate. It’s a calm, immersive place to wander, with pockets of shade and bursts of colour at every turn.

🌿 Serre de la Madone

Designed by Lawrence Johnston — the creator of England’s famous Hidcote Manor Garden in Chipping Campden, Costwolds — Serre de la Madone is a quieter, more contemplative garden. Terraced slopes, stone stairways and carefully curated plant collections create a serene atmosphere. It’s ideal for guests who enjoy peaceful walks, botanical detail and elegant garden design.

🎨 Fontana Rosa

Fontana Rosa is Menton’s most unusual garden — a cinematic, Spanish‑inspired space created by writer Vicente Blasco Ibáñez. Colourful ceramics, tiled benches, pergolas and literary motifs give it a whimsical, artistic feel. It’s a lovely stop for guests who enjoy architecture, history and gardens with personality.

🍋 Jardin du Palais Carnolès

Set around the former summer residence of the Princes of Monaco, this garden is home to one of Europe’s largest citrus collections. Orange, lemon and mandarin trees fill the grounds, and the villa itself houses a small art museum. It’s a gentle, easy visit — perfect for a morning stroll or a quiet hour in the shade.
